Friday 21 December 2007

Home v Blue Sky Bar 21 Dec

A hiding to nothing, yep a 9/0 loss, looks like Blue Sky Bar will be the team to beat this year. Most games were decided on the black ball but unfortunately not in our favour. Not much we can say except better luck next week team.

Thursday 20 December 2007

Away v The Local

In a rescheduled event due to the election and bars being closed on Friday The Local proved to be just too good. Dee was a little unlucky to follow the black into the hole, and Fern had plenty of chances at the black but it was not to be. Loui was the best player on the night apparently with a deserved win in singles and a shared win with Fern in doubles and Kim was the only other winner in singles. Better luck next week team.

Friday 7 December 2007

Home v Oasis 7 Dec

Some times you can be lucky and sometimes unlucky. Last night was one of those nights where the opposition had all the luck and quite a bit of skill as well. But we all finished the night in a happy mood despite the 7/2 loss.

Saturday 1 December 2007

Inter Bar away Nov 30

We reversed the first round result at Inter Bar, last time we lost the first 5 singles games and ended up with a 4/5 loss at home, this time we won the first three singles games and came away with a 5/4 win, although we could be hearing impaired after the loud music throughout the game. Well done team. Dee, according to the bar staff, drank the bar dry having 13 beers.

Friday 23 November 2007

Well Happy Bar have been and we have sent them home not so happy. With Joi and Fred back from Belgium and Kim away in Bangkok, Joi stepped up to the plate and won both her singles and doubles as did all our regulars except Ron and Garry who both had a bad night. Ah well it has to happen to us all now and again. A good win though considering at 6/3 and Dee is cock a hoop to be leading in the team points competition but there is still a long way to go. Keep up the good work team.

Friday 16 November 2007

Away v Good Friends 16 Nov

A better start than last week and a far better result at the end of the night. We had it won in the singles 5/1 but the highlight was the first game of doubles Fern did it again, sunk the black on the break, unbelievable. Final result was 7/2, well done team.

Friday 9 November 2007

Home v Em&Em 9 Nov

Well we have turned the corner and played the first game of the second round. At this stage I must say that we have done pretty well considering that we have as many points at the half-way stage as we had at the finish of last years competition. Even though we beat this team in the first round it was noted that their were only two of the original team still playing with four unknown replacements who all turned out to be pretty good. It was not a good start to the second round though with Dee being 7 balled in our first game things looked ominous. Ron and Loui saved our bacon with wins and at the end of the singles we still had a chance at 4/2. However, we lost the first two games of doubles with only Kim and Fern coming up with a win to make the final score 6/3. Better luck next week team.

Saturday 3 November 2007

Home v Chokdee 2 Nov

Well we did stumble and fall but we made it a win if only just 5/4. A win is a win and we will take it gratefully. Dee started us off nicely then Loui & Ron had a fall, Garry & Fern picked us up again and Ced was unlucky to lose his singles to leave us 3/3. No troubles in the doubles we won the first two to secure the win but Dee and Loui stumbled at the last hurdle to make it 5/4.

Saturday 27 October 2007

Away v Blue Sky 26 Oct

The team did extremely well under adverse conditions with two players out with the flue (Garry & Kim) so just a word from the wise, get your flu shots early, this one is a killer. Anyway our stand ins Cedric and Joi both stepped up to the mark and we had it won in the singles 5/1 and only lost one doubles game giving us another good win at 7/2.... Onward and Upward, we should be 5th on the ladder now.

Friday 19 October 2007

Home v The Wall Oct 19

Absolutely bloody fantastic. About time we showed our true form and lets hope there is more to come. Unfortunate that a double to sink the black turned into a triple to be the one loss that stopped what could have been a clean sweep. Well done team. Joi has suggested that the team might consider wearing the yellow shirts for away games and white shirts for home games ??

Saturday 13 October 2007

Away v Rock Hard 12 Oct

We are on a winning streak. A hard fought battle saw us 3/3 in the singles with Fern a little unlucky to sink the white along with the black ball in her game. The doubles were all close and we were happy to come away winning 2/1 making it another 5/4 finish and a win for us.

Saturday 6 October 2007

Home v Tiger Bar 5 Oct

We secured a win to break our loosing streak so now lets go onwards and upwards. We won the singles 5/1 with some very close matches, but didnt look too good when it came to doubles going down in the first two games and it took Loui & Fern to stop the rot with a win in the last. So a 6/3 win looks a bit better than our previous run of 5/4 losses. Lets keep it up team.

Friday 28 September 2007

Home v Heavens Bch 28 Sept

Another 4/5 loss, can you believe it .... we better be careful or we will forget how to win. All close games again, but then most of the teams are fairly equal these days, it usually comes down to the last ball. We were down 4/2 in the singles, just a little unlucky in some cases and just a rush of blood in others. We had to win all the doubles but it was not to be when we went down in the first game but, fought back bravely to win the next two with an especially good or lucky shot by yours truely in the last when snookered on the black, two cushions and pot the black ... easy, and the crowd were all on their feet ... it felt good. But, sadly, another loss and we had better do something about our slide down the ladder and bring it to a halt next week.

Friday 21 September 2007

Away v Half Moon 21 Sept

Well, we held the top team game for game until the very end. So we can hold our heads high and win every game from here on in the competition. Not a bad result, but oh what could have been. Yes, every game was close, 3/3 in the singles and down to the last game in doubles, but in the end it was a 4/5 loss. We will do better next time.

Player Points Competition

Over the past ten weeks of competition I have been running a points table for the regular players in the team. You get 2 points for a singles win and 1 point for a doubles win. It is interesting to note that all the regulars have won 5 out of 10 doubles games regardless of partner. To be fair to Loui who joined us late and virtually took over from Karl I have allocated Karls points to Loui. Ron & Garry are leading the comp with 19 points a piece the rest are 4 points behind and seperated by 1 point, very close since both Kim and Fern have both missed a night each.

Friday 14 September 2007

Home v Enjoy Place 14 Sept

We started well with a good win to Garry followed by a win to Ron using the three foul rule. Talk about a controversial rule, the "three fouls loss of game rule" came into play three times on the night and created some bad feeling on the oppositions behalf but it inspired them to retaliate by using the rule to win two of their games. I guess that made them feel a little better, but I think the rule only encourages players to play for the snooker/foul. I would like to see this rule ditched next season, so make your feelings known to those who run the competition. The singles ended up 3/3 and once again we were left to fight it out in the doubles. Unfortunately we lost the first two and Joi and Dee won the last to finish the game with a controversial loss 4/5. Better luck next week against half moon.

Saturday 8 September 2007

Away v December Bar

Well things were looking grim at December Bar down 4/0 until Garry stopped the rot with a win and Fern followed suit to make it 4/2 in the singles. To be fair to our guys all the games were close as usual and Dec Bar played really well. We had to win all the doubles and Loui and Fern started us off in fine style with a win, Garry & Ron were really unlucky when the other side missed potting the black but the ball did the impossible and doubled back into the same hole for a win for them. Dee and Kim finished up with a win to make the final score 5/4 to December Bar. It is interesting to note that our only losses to date have been 5/4 ... just one game ... We will do better.

Saturday 1 September 2007

Home v Chiangers and Bangers

Another close one folks, and I must say a very hard fought win. The new improved C& B team fought tooth and nail all the way with just about all games going to a black ball game. Ron was very unlucky to lose to undoubtedly their best player but wins to Loui, Dee and Garry put us level 3/3 at the end of the singles. First game of doubles was close but a loss to us meant that we had to win the remaining two games for a win. Kim and Dee did a great job at leveling us up at 4/4 and Ron & Garry put the nail in their coffin to secure a 5/4 win. An all round great effort appreciated by both teams. By the way Jack says that C&B are having a big day for the final of the Aussie Footy last week in September and also not to forget the Melbourne Cup Day in November for a bit of Aussie Culture.

Friday 24 August 2007

Blue Sky away

A win for my birthday, very nice thank you team. OK, so it was only 5/4 (again) but I must accept responsibility for that, fancy missing a sitter in the doubles, can only blame it on the grog. Would like to welcome Loui to the team, being the new guy we put him up first to test his mettle and he came up trumps with a good win, well done Loui.

Friday 17 August 2007

Home v The Local

Another 5/4 win but a welcome win anyway, but knowing that The Local have not won a game this season doesn't make the narrow win feel any better. We were unlucky (again) with the white and the black going in the wrong holes at the wrong time on a couple of games but no excuses, we have to do better. Karl started us off in fine style with a seven baller and for a moment Ron looked like he was going to do the same in the second game, but then we lost two in a row before Dee and Fern came to the rescue and the singles finished with us 4/2 up. Needless to say we only won one doubles game, Garry and Ron scraped us home for the 5/4 win. Well done team but we will do better next week.

Friday 10 August 2007

Oasis away 10 Aug

A trip away to Oasis Bar did not prove as successful as we would have liked. Ron started us off well, with a win in the first game, but we went down in the next three until Karl stopped the rot in his first appearance in the singles. Then Fern was unlucky to get beat in the last game which put us on the ropes having to win all three doubles again. Unfortunately we fell at the first hurdle but came back to win the last two leaving us with a 4/5 loss. Oasis are a good team but so are we and sometimes it just comes down to the break of the balls. We will do better next game although it is a tough ask against the Local.

Friday 3 August 2007

Home v Inter Bar 3 August

A game that we always knew would be tough against the top team from last tournament but we were determined. Fern was unlucky to be beaten in the first game and Inter Bar showed us their skills in the next four as well. Down five to nothing in the singles, a courageous comeback was begun by Song in the last game of singles, which had everyone in the bar screaming for Nr1. After this the team rallied and the doubles, which had been our weak point in past weeks, ended up being our saviour with a miraculous three to nothing making an overall loss 4/5 but a result after a slow start that we were more than happy to walk away with. Well done team.

Friday 27 July 2007

Happy Bar 27 July

Well done team, it certainly takes the pressure off when we win the first five games straight, lets keep it up. Fern was unlucky in her singles game with the white coming off the black and into the pocket. We did a little better in the doubles this time with only Ron and Garry going down. The score should maintain our position near the top of the ladder so keep it up team.

Friday 20 July 2007

Good Friends at Home

The good luck or good form continues with the team winning the match in singles alone coming in with 5 games to 1. The one unfortunate loss was to Karl who has returned for a brief visit, welcome back Karl. Ric has also returned for a brief visit but being unable to get a game has defected to play for Tiger Bar. Back to the game, having won the match we let our guard slip a little in the doubles losing 2/1, Kim and Song were the winners there. Well done team, we are sitting pretty well on the ladder at the moment lets hope we can continue in an upward trend.

Friday 13 July 2007

Em & Em Bar 13 July

Well done team, a great start to the season with a 7/2 win away. Not much else to say about the matches actually, Dee never quite got into the swing of it in the first game but after that we never looked back. Song returned from Korea to take Joi's place in the team so welcome back Song. I will be keeping a record of each players win/loss ratio this season and perhaps we will have a little party/presentation at the end of the season. So, just remember they all count.

Saturday 7 July 2007

Pre Season Practice v Tiger Bar away

Nothing like a warm up game before the season starts next week on Friday 13th.

A great night at Tiger Bar and a great start to the season for them, new to the competition and they made a miraculous recovery from being 4-0 down in the singles to winning the next five games straight. Darren, Ron, Garry & Kim won their singles for Nr 1 Pub but then Les Harvey for Tiger Bar began the fight back and they won their remaining singles and all the doubles matches. Well done Tiger Bar. Bad Luck Nr 1, perhaps we relaxed a little too much after being in front or our rotation of players just did not work but we had fun and it was only a practice game, the real thing starts next week.

Tuesday 3 July 2007

It looks like there will be practice games on at Nr 1 pub (wed 4th) and Tiger Bar (Friday 6th)
before the competition gets underway on Friday 13th. Hope to see you all there.

Thursday 21 June 2007

Prize night Friday 22 June

Trophies were presented to the winning teams at the overall winners home 'Inter Bar' this Friday. Prior to going to Inter Bar Joi presented the Nr 1 team with their new shirts for next season and bought the drinks in appreciation of her teams efforts. All then climbed aboard Rons bike to arrive at Inter bar in style. The Trophies were awarded for 1st Inter Bar, 2nd Blue Sky and 3rd Half Moon. Ron then serenaded all with his version of 'House of the Rising Sun' and 'Take me Home', which we then did. Back to Nr 1 but we had all too much to drink. It is rumoured that Inter Bar will not be in the competition next season. Tiger Bar is the new team to enter the competition. The new competition will commence on the 13th July. Joi has also elected me, Garry, as team captain so I will need to get all your contact numbers.

Friday 15 June 2007

December Bar Away

Well thats it folks the season is over for at least two weeks and some of us will be glad for the break. We thought no one was going to turn up at December Bar for the last game but it seems that they are just late starters but for a team that has struggled to make up the numbers all season they are doing extremely well to be at nr 6. It would have been a feather in our cap if we had been able to beat them and perhaps move up to spot nr 10 but in the end they were just too good for us. Yes we made a couple of mistakes and had a bit of bad luck but in the end even though all the games were extremely close they won. It went game for game in the singles but they were too good in the doubles and the final score was 6/3. Well done team on a good season but we will do better next time. NUMBER ONE NUMBER ONE NUMBER ONE.......

Friday 8 June 2007

Blue Sky at Home

As the competition draws to a close and only one game remaining the end result is a foregone conclusion with Inter Bar winning the competition virtually from the middle of the season. Hopefully there will be some changes made for next years ladder, the rumours being that there will be an A and a B Grade. Anyway, the social atmosphere still remains and we had a most enjoyable game at home against Blue Sky. It looked like being a runaway win with us being up 4 zip in the opening games but they came back to make it 4/2 at the end of the singles. They had to win all the doubles which was a bit of de javu as we had to do it twice in preceeding weeks and they had done it the preceeding week also. Needless to say we held on by the skin of our teeth and took the last game to make it 5/4. Maybe just enough to get us into A grade (if they have one) next year. Two wins on the trot is a good way to finish so lets hope we keep it up for the final game next week against December Bar.

Friday 1 June 2007

The Local - Away

After a slow start we should have been all even at the end of the singles but a slight stutter by Kim who followed the black into the oh so easy set up hole. Unusual for him as he is our back stop and we rely on him to get us out of tough situations. So down 4/2 and with our backs to the wall again .... we had to win all three doubles games. Pressure was on each pair in turn, Garry & Ron up first with a win to keep us in the game, then Kim and Dee as the pressure built and finally Pascal and Fern finished it off with a brilliant all round performance. Well done team another 5/4 win.

Friday 25 May 2007

Tiger Bar at Home 25 May

Les rounded up a formidable looking team including John the aussie owner of Tiger Bar who was unrecognisable from his huge weight loss, Norm the WA fishing giant and reknown pool player, Phil the Welsh Wonder boy, Scott the prodigious producer, another WA who just happened to be in the bar and Les himself of course. It was a great night played in the best of humour and we must thank them all for giving us a tough practice round. Unfortunately they fell for our ploy of scantily dressed lovelies and Nr 1 bar girl cheer squad, and I also dont think their minds were on their game once Fern and Joi stepped up to the table. But at least John put up a valiant fight coming back from five balls down to beat Garry and save face for Tiger Bar who eventually went down 8/1 despite all the heckling and barracking from team captain Les.

Tuesday 22 May 2007

With Outback Bar no longer in the league we have a bye, however to keep us in form we have arranged a game against Tiger Bar who perhaps will have a team in the next competition.

Friday 18 May 2007

The Wall - away

It was easy to see why the wall is at spot 4 on the ladder, they all played extremely well and beat us 6/3. But having said that our team put up a great fight to the finish. Once again we were down 4/2 after our singles having to win all our doubles for an outright win, why not, we did it last week. The girls Joi and Fern kicked off and once again showed us how it is done winning the first doubles with some brilliant play. Unfortunately the boys faultered even though the last game was taken right down to the black ball. No disgrace though, we have given all the top teams either a scare or a good fight.

Friday 11 May 2007

ChokD Bar Away

Another tough competition with a fight to the very last ball. At the end of the singles we were looking down the barrell of a gun being down 4/2 and having to win all the doubles matches. The girls Joi & Fern showed us the way and Kim & Darren learnt the lesson well, putting the pressure on Garry and Ron to bring us back from the dead. This time it went our way and we won 5/4. There was nothing left to do but go back to Nr1 and celebrate.

Friday 4 May 2007

Heavens Beach at Home

Heavens Beach turned up right on the death knock which kept us wondering if they were going to turn up at all. We lost the toss but won the first two games with the third being a real cliff hanger with the black nearly potted by an excellent shot out of a snooker. Despite the whole bar being on their feet cheering it was not to be and we ended up 3/3 after the singles. Things went downhill from there in the doubles with the final score going to the Beach 5/4. This was two of the teams final game as Song is heading back to Korea and Pascal back to Belgium .... Adios Amigos.

Friday 27 April 2007

Away at Half Moon

I returned from my trip in time to play but exhausted after a week away. The team played away at Half Moon and were hoping for a good result against one of the top three teams. It was looking good at 3/3 after the singles matches but unfortunately luck was not with us in the doubles and we went down 6/3. All told though they were all close matches as is usually the case these days with the standard of all players being pretty good. The difference in most games comes down to good judgement and sometimes a bit of luck.

Em & Em massacre 20th April

While I was away down south celebrating Anzac Day Memorial Services the team did a really good job on the Em & Em Bar. At home in Nr 1 Pub they were up 5/1 in the singles and feeling good with the whole bar cheering led by Joi and the girls but Em&Em fought back in the doubles to bring the score back to a more respectable 6/3.

Saturday 14 April 2007

No pool games were played this week due to the Songkran Festival but good fun was had by all in the water fight around the moat all weekend.

Friday 6 April 2007

Chiangers and Bangers

Another close match away from home. Kim took the first game to a black ball finish but was unlucky this time. Garry won the second game to make it all square with one a piece. In the third game Fern managed to amaze everyone by sinking the black ball from the break to win. Ced was next up and it was another black ball finish where we were once again unfortunate. Joy stepped up to the mark not having played for the team for quite a while but was happy to fill in while some of our players were away. She was in trouble with seven balls still on the table when the opposition sank their last ball and the black to lose on a foul. Pom played the last singles game against their best player and just fell short of the mark. It was three all going into the doubles. Kim and Pom went down in the first game and Garry and Ced went down in the second game both close finishes but no prize, so it was up to the girls Joy and Fern in the last and they didnt let us down winning the final doubles to make the final score 5/4 to Chiangers and Bangers.
